I am a sociologist and migration researcher specializing in social inequalities in return migration and deportation regimes, with a particular focus on how migration policies affect migrants and their families. I currently work as a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Political Science and the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR) at the University of Amsterdam. I am affiliated with the Amsterdam Centre for Inequality Studies and the Amsterdam Centre for European Studies.
My research explores migration trajectories from Central Asia and, more recently, from Serbia in the Western Balkans and the Philippines in Southeast Asia. As part of the ERC-funded Reintegrate project, I collaborate with Dr. Katie Kuschminder to study reintegration governance across diverse contexts. My recent and forthcoming publications examine the gendered dimensions of labor migration and deportation and postcolonial continuities in racialization and governmentality of migration structures.
I coordinate the Migration Dialogue group for early-career researchers at the Amsterdam Research Center for Migration, fostering interdisciplinary exchange and collaboration.
I prioritize partnerships with civil society organizations, human rights, and migration lawyers in all aspects of my work. I bring extensive experience working with policymakers and advocacy groups to ensure that academic research contributes meaningfully to public debates and evidence-based policy-making.
To make my research accessible beyond academia, I have participated in podcasts, sharing findings in clear, accessible language to promote social justice for migrant populations and their families.
I hold a Ph.D. in Political and Social Sciences from the European University Institute in Italy.
